Is CommunityCAD free?
Yes. Browsing, uploading and downloading are free: up to 5 models a day and 20 a week on the Free tier. Optional paid tiers raise those limits and remove ads, and you can also earn tiers for free by uploading models or supporting creators. You never have to pay to use the library.
What file formats can I download and upload?
We support open formats like STEP, STL, OBJ, 3MF, DXF, SVG, and FreeCAD, alongside proprietary ones such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360. Models often include multiple formats so you can grab the one you need.
Who owns the models, and how can I use them?
Creators retain ownership of what they upload and choose a license for each model. Always check the license shown on a model's page before using it in a project — it tells you exactly what's permitted.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to browse, search or download within the free limits. Sign in with Google or GitHub (no passwords) to upload, comment, rate accuracy, like, follow, donate, link a printer, or send feedback.
How do donations work?
You can support creators directly with a one-time or recurring donation. The creator receives the full amount you choose; payment processing is covered on top, and CommunityCAD keeps a small platform fee (the greater of $0.50 or 5%). It all runs securely through Stripe.
How do I upload my own models?
Sign in and click “+ Upload.” Add your CAD file or a ZIP of your project (up to 250 MB), a title, description, tags, images and optional datasheets, pick a license, and publish. Batch upload handles up to 10 files at once, and you can add new versions over time. The docs explain the recommended ZIP layout.
I found a bug or have a feature idea. What do I do?
Use the Feedback button in the corner of any page (when signed in). Bugs and feature requests go straight to the team so we can track and act on them. For anything else, reach out on the Contact page.
Are the models checked or safe to print?
No. Models are made by other users and CommunityCAD doesn't test them. A file made for another printer or machine can damage yours, so check every file, its settings and its license before you use it, and watch the start of every print.
Can I send a model to my printer?
Yes, with CommunityCAD for Klipper, a free plugin for Klipper printers running Mainsail or Fluidd. It's in private beta; the docs explain what it needs.
How do I report a model or request a takedown?
Every model page has a Report option for content that breaks our guidelines. For copyright concerns, see our DMCA page to file a takedown notice.
